Origins of Botchkey

Botchey was charred out of the depths of an old oak barrel...... Ok.. lets start over... A long time ago in a bar not sooo far away...Wait..ok...

 Lets try again... Every year for several years  a group of friends would get together to celebrate a birthday at one of our friends homes. The theme of these parties was a bottle share mostly of scotches.  I would always find myself in search of  an offering that would stand out among the other choices by style and flavor profile... Each year we would see new friends who would bring unique bourbons and Japanese whiskies... What struck me about these parties was the challenge to bring the " stand -Out" whiskey. We would spend weeks deciding what we would bring... many trips to the local package store hoping to find just the right bottle to add to the group.  We would try each others gifts to the party and look up the flavor profiles via the Distiller app. These parties allowed me to gain knowledge of what i was tasting and my palate , understanding and appreciation for Bourbon, Scotch and Whiskey grew.

 Our friend whose birthday housed these parties moved away which left me in a quandary to continue this gathering every year. We decided to start hosting our own.  Most of the offerings at these parties were Scotches and the parties were previously referred  to as Scotch parties. After hosting several of our own where we saw more bourbons and whiskey I started calling these get-togethers as Botchkey parties... and it stuck.

Benefits to hosting a Botchkey party: The offerings brought to the hosts bar stay at the hosts bar.

Benefits to attending a Botchkey party: you get to taste a variety of whiskeys you may not have previously had the opportunity of trying.... plus you do not have to clean up.

Also the challenge to find just the right whiskey forces you to learn more about whisky.
